The Military Marching Compass a liquid filled compass with a rugged metal case. When opened fully, you can use the compass as a slide ruler.
How To Use The Marching Compass:
- To find your bearing in the field, hold the compass level in your hand so the graduated dial is free to rotate. Point the compass at the object you wish to take a bearing on. Align the object on the thin wire while looking through the sighting slot. Read the bearing through the eyepiece lens at the line of the travel indicator.
- To follow a known bearing in the field, hold the compass level in front of you. Rotate your body until the known bearing aligns with the line of the travel indicator. Walk straight ahead to your destination.
- To orient your map, lay your map on a flat surface. Place your compass on the map. Turn the map until the north indicator arrow on your compass is parallel to (points in the same direction as) the true north arrow on your map.
